Forms from the crystallization of magma or lava below the Earth’s surface
Composes of mainly quartz and a variety of minerals which creates its unique patterns of color
Nearly 3,000 different colors and designs available
Because of its volcanic nature, Granite stones are heat resistant
A porous natural stone that can soak up liquids
Exceptionally durable which makes it scratch resistant
Cannot be cut with regular knives
Very heavy material and can be difficult to install
MARBLE
A metamorphic rock which shapes from limestone under high heat and pressure
Luxurious natural stone that comes in a smaller range of colors than Granite
Slabs feature a gorgeous vein of color, a design that has become synonymous with Marble
Although it is heat resistant, if a hot pot is placed over it, it might change its color
A porous natural stone that can soak up liquids
QUARTZ
Contains about 93 percent quartz particles and 7 percent man-made materials
Companies that make Quartz use a variety of pulverized materials (granite, marble, quartz, glass) combined with a binding polymer to create an engineered product that is stronger than most natural stone
Quartz is one of the hardest minerals on Earth
Comes in a wide range of colors, patterns, and tones
Nonabsorbent, so it is stain resistance and does not harbor harmful bacteria
Produced as an affordable and low-maintenance option compared to Marble and Granite
QUARTZITE
A non-foliated metamorphic rock composed almost entirely of quartz rich sandstone altered by heat, pressure, and the chemical activity of metamorphism
One of the main benefits of Quartzite is that many varieties have a similar look to Marble but require much less maintenance
Many colors, textures, finishes and edges can be created
Relatively heat and stain resistant
One of the most physically durable and chemically resistant stones on earth
One of the hardest natural stones, slightly harder than Granite
SOAPSTONE
A metamorphic rock composed mainly of talc and other minerals
A natural stone that comes in deep, rich colors and has a smooth and silky feel
Soapstone does not have many color options
Due its composition, Soapstone is non-porous, non-absorbent, heat resistant, does not need sealing, anti-bacterial and is easy to shape
Soapstone may darken over time
PORCELAIN
Made from China Clay containing high amounts of Kaolinite along with silica, feldspar and other mineral oxides, put into a kiln and fired at extremely high temperatures making it heat resistant
No sealing needed due to fire glazing which blocks against stains and moisture
Unlike stone, Porcelain does not come with its designs built in. Patterns are basically printed onto the top
Colors come in virtually any shade, pattern, and finish
Extremely hard, durable and stands up to most impacts, making it very difficult to scratch, chip or mark
It is non-porous so liquids do not absorb
Acidic foods, drinks, and/or chemicals will not dull, etch, discolor or bleach out the surface making it chemical resistant
Resistant to UV-Light which means it will not fade from direct sunlight
100% natural, raw, and clay-based making it environmentally friendly and recyclable
Lightweight so easier to install
